Layko is a young handsome mastin dog. He was tied to the perrera in October with another mastin. This time the four cages were already overflowing and the two mastins were put in the cage with another big dog ...
Layko was limping a little but we thought it might be from fighting and the vet who visited us thought it might be from his skin disease (as many of the dogs in Infiesto have scabies, which is very contagious, he got it as well). He did put weight on the leg. He did not improve though and now he was finally alone in the cage we took him to the vet for a good diagnose – and to our dismay she immediately said it had probably been broken at the elbow and that it had started to grow together again.
There is no more movement in the elbow than this. His right leg is also much thinner.
The bones are in a mess and have started to grow together. Breaking the leg again and operating would probably not have good results, it was a very bad fracture from the beginning.
Treatment:
Antibiotics and tablets to bring the swelling down. Check how is is doing again in 10 days.
Then start with his treatment for the scabies (we have done this with many dogs already).
As there are no caretakers in the perrera in Infiesto, we had to take him to a dog pension where they can give him his medication every 12 hours and keep an eye on him – as all our foster homes are full at the moment or not suited for a 52 kg big mastin.
He is a very friendly dog, and loves being stroked.
